Cub Foods, the Twin Cities’ largest grocery retailer, together with Jerry’s Foods, a Cub Foods franchisee, last week confirmed plans to open a new Cub Foods store at 701 W. Broadway in North Minneapolis.
The new Cub Foods store, slated to open in the summer of 2004, will total approximately 79,600 square feet and will occupy the site formerly owned by Target Corporation. Cub Foods also announced that it plans to open new stores in Shorewood, Savage, Arden Hills, Lakeville, Saint Paul and Brooklyn Park by early 2005.
“We are excited to bring the convenience of Cub Foods, along with our everyday low prices and outstanding product selection to North Minneapolis,” said Gordy Farrington, president, Cub Foods, Western region. “This store fits well into our overall growth strategy, which enables us to expand into new markets as well as identify new opportunities in those communities where we’ve already established a strong presence.”
Cub Foods, one of the first discount food stores in the country, established the original concept of “Consumers United for Buying” in 1968. In 1980, SUPERVALU bought Cub Foods and expanded it from five stores to what will be 51 corporate and franchised stores in the Twin Cities by early 2005. Cub’s efficient buying, volume purchasing and disciplined format bring low prices, innovation and convenience to its customers.
