Blackonomics: Condo for sale-Bushes included

‘’The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.’’
Joseph Goebbels, German Minister of Propaganda, 1933-1945.

Sometimes I am at a loss for words when it comes to some of the things Black people say and do, especially when it comes to politics. I have seen some of them grovel before politicians and walk in lock-step with political parties, even to the detriment of other Black people. I have witnessed our so-called Black leaders compromise (a softer word for sellout); I have seen them collaborate against their own people; I have seen them stand idly by and do and say nothing when they see with their own eyes gross injustice all around them.

It’s as though some of us just want to be accepted or need to be validated by the White power structure, so much so that we are willing to lie, distort and skirt the truth, and run interference for our former slave masters even today. Gabriel Prosser would be outraged.

As I sat and watched the National Security Advisor, Condoleezza Rice on television explaining the debacle in Iraq, I was outraged, I was ashamed, I was insulted, and I was hurt. Here is a woman, a highly intelligent woman, a respected woman, an affluent woman, answering questions about the escapades of George W. Bush and what he and his comrades have done since his rise to power.

Tim Russert would ask her a question and you could hear her voice quivering, something I have not heard before, shaking at the prospect of having to say some of the most ridiculous things ever to come out of the mouth of a person. She had to know that some of her answers were not quite true, not quite to the point and not quite convincing. She was just there to cover for Bush.
Rice, also having worked for George H.W. Bush, George W’s father, is always there, always close to the village idiot’s side to take the slings and arrows that come his way. She jumped to his rescue to defend those infamous 16 words in his State of the Union Address. She fell on her sword, after CIA Director George Tenet did the same thing, and some underling before him, to protect George Bush.
By that time I was asking myself how much more Rice and Powell would take before they speak out, before they resign from this corrupt and horrid administration. Apparently, either they think they are doing a great job or they are in so deep they cannot find a way out now.

Whatever the situation, it is shameful. Rice is the recipient of the NAACP’s president’s award for advancing the ideals of the NAACP through image, personal achievement and service to all people of color. The NAACP president even said those attributes accurately describe Rice. Yes, Rice has a nice image and she has certainly achieved a great deal on a personal level. As to the part about "service to all people of color" (whatever that means), I don’t know.

Looks to me like she’s doing more for people of non-color, and if you count the people of Iraq, Korea, Iran, and Syria as "people of color," then it is questionable if she is living up to all of the award’s credits. Of course we certainly could not be talking about people of color in this country, except for the warm feeling some of us might get when we see a Black woman walking just behind the President, staying at his ranch, going to Camp David with him, and sometimes whispering sweet nothings in his ear for dramatic effect.

So what is it? What makes Condo tick? What keeps her going? Is it money? Probably not, at least not to the highest bidder. If this Condo is for sale, it’s only to the Bushes
