Minneapolis – Fraser Academy, a new, inclusive public elementary school, is pleased to announce that the school will be located in the education building at the Basilica of Saint Mary in Minneapolis at 1601 Laurel Ave.
“We are so thrilled with this location and the opportunities that it will provide to partner with families and the downtown community,” said Marcy Doud, Fraser Academy director. “The existing education building is beautiful and is a wonderful fit for our program.” Fraser Academy is a public charter school, not otherwise affiliated with the Basilica of Saint Mary.
"We are looking forward to welcoming Fraser's elementary students,” commented Basilica Rector, Rev. Michael J. O'Connell. “Fraser's mission is a great fit with the Basilica's.”
The vision for Fraser Academy is to be a high quality, inclusive elementary program that meets the diverse needs of each child. The school plans to provide kindergarten, first and second grade programs during its inaugural year and to add a grade each year, up to fifth grade, as students advance. As a public charter school, Fraser Academy will not charge tuition.
Some additional benefits of Fraser Academy include:
·small class sizes with 18-20 students per class;
·teachers that challenge each student to his/her highest potential; and
·individual learning plans for all children.
Fraser Academy is currently accepting applications for kindergarten, first and second grade for the fall of 2004. Information sessions for parents are scheduled for Tuesday, July 13, and Tuesday, July 20, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the school. For more information, please visit www.fraseracademy.org or call (612) 798-8349.
Fraser Academy is a separate entity from the overall nonprofit Fraser organization, which is the school’s founder. St. Cloud State University, College of Education, is the charter school’s sponsoring organization and is contributing to oversight, accountability, expertise, and cutting-edge knowledge of best practices.
The charter school builds on Fraser’s expertise in early childhood development programming which has been provided through Fraser School, an inclusive center serving children up to 6 years of age. Fraser has nearly 70 years of experience helping children to develop to their highest potentials.
