Soweto Gospel Choir to perform at University of Minnesota School of Music (SOM) March 1

Direct from South Africa, the Soweto Gospel Choir will perform at the University of Minnesota School of Music (SOM) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1 in the Ted Mann Concert Hall. Formed to celebrate the unique and inspirational power of African music, the Soweto Gospel Choir is an awe-inspiring vocal ensemble, performing a program of traditional music in eight different languages. Led by choirmaster David Mulovhedzi, the choir of 26 voices is drawn from the best talent from churches and communities surrounding Soweto. The Choir brings its program titled "Voices of Heaven" to the Twin Cities, which features not only traditional African gospel but also "Amazing Grace," "Paradise Road," and music by Otis Redding and the soul-styled reggae of Jimmy Cliff. The concert will also feature traditional dancers, drummers and a dynamic four-piece band.
