Uncle Gordon: Black history as personal and family history

Vocal Essence (Witness) is a dramatic multimedia exploration of the life and work of master photographer, author, filmmaker and composer Gordon Parks. Parks, who lived in St. Paul as a young man, is an inspiring figure to artists in all disciplines. His continuing legacy will be celebrated in a script commissioned from local author David Grant and directed by Jon Cranney, Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005 at 4 p.m at the Ordway Center’s Main Stage. Philip Brunelle conducts the VocalEssence Chorus with instrumentalists in a dramatic concert that will enrich and entertain as you discover one of this era's true Renaissance personalities. The "Conversations with Al McFarlane Public Policy Forum," broadcast at North Community High School last week, celebrated the life and legacy of this true African American hero. In attendance were four generations of the Gordan Parks family. They included: Dorthea Burns-niece, Bobby Hickman-nephew, Robin Hickman-grand niece, Angela Wren-grand niece, and Ashayla Burns-Johnson-great, great, great niece.
