Rainbow Foods, Little Earth partner to strengthen food shelf

Robert Mariano, chairman and CEO of Roundy’s Supermarkets, Inc. and president of the Roundy’s Foundation, joined by Mark Beaty, v.p. general manager of Rainbow Foods last month presented $11,000 in food gift cards and cash to the Little Earth Community Food Shelf at Little Earth United Tribal Communities, 2495 18th Ave. in South Minneapolis. Robert Mariano, chairman and CEO of Roundy’s Supermarkets, Inc. and president of the Roundy’s Foundation, joined by Mark Beaty, vice president, general manager of Rainbow Foods, last month presented $11,000 in food gift cards and cash to the Little Earth Community Food Shelf at Little Earth United Tribal Communities, 2495 18th Ave. in South Minneapolis.

Little Earth Community residents, Little Earth Community Partnership executives and Roundy’s representatives attended the ceremony.

“We are very grateful that the Roundy’s Foundation and Rainbow Foods have recognized our need to provide healthy and nutritious food options to our residents,” said Bill Ziegler, executive director of Little Earth. “I want to thank the Roundy’s Foundation for its generous contribution to us.”

Roundy’s Corporate Giving Program has three focus areas in which to concentrate its contributions: Hunger Relief, Literacy and Families in Crisis. According to the 2004 annual report, the Foundation gave more than $410,000 in monetary and food donations; 65% was contributed towards Hunger Relief. Through the Roundy’s Foundation, numerous youth programs, food pantries and education incentives have been funded over the past 20 years in areas where Rainbow Foods has a presence.
