Female Hip-Hop Dancers CONVERGE on Minneapolis

On June 29, 2006 B-Girl Be: A Celebration of Women in Hip Hop kicks off with the Summit, a multidisciplinary gathering that brings together international, national and local girls and women who are using hip-hop dance in innovative and creative ways for live dance showcases, dialogues, workshops and networking opportunities.

At the B-Girl Be Summit – June 29-July 2, 2006

On June 29, 2006 B-Girl Be: A Celebration of Women in Hip Hop kicks off with the Summit, a multidisciplinary gathering that brings together international, national and local girls and women who are using hip-hop dance in innovative and creative ways for live dance showcases, dialogues, workshops and networking opportunities.

The Summit features national and international guest B-Girls ASIA ONE (LA), Rokafella (NYC), Vendetta (Chicago), Severe (Chicago), GENESIS (Amsterdam), Danielle (London) and Morgana (Sao Paolo) and photojournalist/historian Martha Cooper, photographer and author of We B’Girlz, who will perform, present and engage in panel discussions and workshops alongside local Twin Cities artists. The Summit also welcomes the inspired Puerto Rican Boricua National Squad who will send three B-Girls to participate for the first time.

Throughout the Summit, local acts are also invited to participate in the Hip-Hop Dance Showcase at Intermedia Arts, the Mainstage Show at First Avenue Nightclub and as a Featured Act on the Red Bull stage. This is our outdoor, low-tech venue for the Summit will be located at Intermedia Arts, 2822 Lyndale Ave S, Minneapolis, MN, and will feature dancers like the Soul Sistas Crew, Lucy Rahn and Serena Thompson and Open Mics.

Following the Summit, B-Girl Be will include two-weeks of workshops for young women from July 10-21, 2006. These exploratory workshops will introduce young women in the Twin Cities area to hip-hop dance, aerosol art, rap and digital media.

Following the 6:00 PM Keynote Address by Dr. Roxanne Shanté

Edna Stevens & Universal Dance Destiny will host a closing reception directly following the Keynote.

$25 general public to participate/ $5 observation only

7:00 PM Hip-Hop Dance Showcase
$7 general public/ $5 members and youth 16 and under
