Six young men and women have been welcomed as the 2006 Jackie Robinson Scholars at the University of Minnesota. Each will receive $7,200 annually for four years plus mentoring and career guidance.

The six scholarship winners are graduates of the following area high schools: Dena Baker from Henry Sibley, West St. Paul; Rachell Cordova from Fargo South; Akil Foluke and Andrea Glover from Minneapolis North; John Hardy from De LaSalle, Minneapolis; and Kelea Randall from St. Paul Central.
The scholarships, founded by Jackie Robinson's widow Rachel, have supported more than 1,100 students across the country since 1973, and nearly all (ninety-seven percent) have graduated from college. Awards are based on scholarship, leadership, service and financial need.
