American Red Cross Northern Minnesota Region calls for Heroes Awards Nominations

The American Red Cross Northern Minnesota Region, reaching from the southern metro area to the Canadian border, announces its call for Heroes Awards nominations. The Red Cross Heroes Awards recognize everyday people who perform extraordinary acts to further our life-saving mission.

Red Cross Heroes Awards winners will be honored at the 5th annual Heroes Breakfast, which will be held at Target Field in Minneapolis on May 24, 2012.  We are proud to announce Target as the presenting event sponsor.

The Heroes Award categories include: Community, Disaster Relief, Emergency Medical Assistance, Fire Fighter, Give Life, Good Samaritan, Law Enforcement, Military, and Youth Good Samaritan. To see descriptions of award categories, to access the awards nominations forms, and to purchase tickets for the recognition breakfast, please visit redcrossmn.org. The deadline for nominations is January 31, 2012.

Previous Heroes recipients have included police officers who saved others when a semi-truck crashed and brought down live power lines onto a crowd; a young woman who, while struggling with cancer, offered a lasting wish to a family who had lost their son to the devastating disease; a stranger who helped children overcome fear and anxiety after they lost their home to a fire; a man who donated gallons of blood over his lifetime so that others were able to live; or a man who provided first aid to a cyclist hit by a car.

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and counsels victims of disasters; provides nearly half of the nation’s blood supply; teaches lifesaving skills; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its humanitarian mission.
