The Black Storytellers Alliance held its 22nd Annual Black Master Storytellers Festival in various locations throughout the Twin Cities on the last weekend in September.
Storytellers hailing from all over the United States came together to celebrate the art of spoken word and its relevance in the African-American community. The title of this year’s festival was “Signifyin’ & Testifyin'” and all of the events were free and open to the public. The opening ceremony was held at the Capri Theatre on West Broadway Ave in north Minneapolis on Sept. 26 with the grand finale on Sept. 28. Some of the featured storytellers included Janice “The Griot” Greene from Baltimore, Oba William King from Chicago and Nothando Zulu of Minneapoli
