"THE HAND THAT FEEDS": Undocumented workers strike for minimum wage in inspirational documentary
In spite of the existence of a law setting the minimum wage at $7.25 per hour, Manhattan's Hot & Crusty (H&C) bakery only compensated its Latino staff members a measly $5 per hour. That's because most were undocumented workers who risked deportation if discovered by the authorities.
The Jungle Theater names Sarah Rasmussen Artistic Director
The Jungle Theater announced the appointment of Sarah Rasmussen as Artistic Director, effective July 1, 2015. Rasmussen was chosen after a nationwide search to fill the role Jungle founder Bain Boehlke has held since 1991. "I am so proud of the thoughtful search process undertaken by our committee, and thrilled with the decision by the committee to name Sarah Rasmussen as my successor at the Jungle," said Boehlke. "I have every confidence that this theater will be in excellent hands under her leadership, and that she will be a wonderful addition to the Twin Cities' theater scene."
The third annual Community Connections Conference attracted over 500 people to the Minneapolis Convention Center on March 21 to meet, learn, and get inspired for the work of creating a more equitable and connected city of Minneapolis.
The Ordway's Concert Hall's three weeks of celebratory events dubbed "Rock the Ordway" continued with Liquid Music. a concert series presented by the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. The series aims to reach new audiences through innovative programs that promise to open ears, minds and hearts to new sounds and experiences. The goal is to encourage a love of adventure an exploration in boundary-defying music.
Gary Hines said it best. "We've traveled the world but there's no place like home." The Sounds of Blackness instrumental and vocal ensemble last week came home to Rock the Ordway's brand new $42 million Concert Hall in downtown St. Paul.
