Ask this question – who owns the culture that a person represents?
When one puts on a new pair of shoes, buys music, or grabs a quick bite to eat, how much of that purchase actually benefits people that look like the consumer? These are questions that were presented to CEO and creative brand director Asa "Ace" Rice as he began building his new space PLOT with several business partners in South Minneapolis. PLOT exists both as a gallery and a lifestyle brand. In a recent interview with Aesthetically Speaking, I spoke with Rice about his endeavors and the future of Minnesota's arts and culture scene.
From the moment audience members walked into the Ordway production of "Damn Yankees" it was a game winning hit.
The Ordway transforms its luxurious main lobby hall to reflect the essence of the production. Baseball uniform clad doormen and greeters welcomed the eclectic audience. Ushers escorted ticket holders into the stage hall, which was transformed into the 1950s world of baseball – stadium and all.

D.I.Y., the idea that you can "do it yourself," has been at the core of MC, producer, instrumentalist and author Blueprint's work model. The Columbus, Ohio native has released 19 projects, some independently on his Weightless Records label, as well as collaborative efforts with Minneapolis-based Rhymesayers Entertainment. Recently returning from Alaska, I spoke to Blueprint about the importance of intellectual hip-hop and being a boss rather than an employee.
