(AFRICAN AMERICAN NEWSWIRE) NEW YORK- (December 2, 2002) -- Ford Motor Company will award scholarships of $5,000 to each of 20 college undergraduates who submit the best essays on the topic of economic empowerment through entrepreneurship. All essays must be received by 9:30 a.m. (EST) on January 3, 2003.
Essay Contest on Diversity and Entrepreneurship

(AFRICAN AMERICAN NEWSWIRE) NEW YORK- (December 2, 2002) -- Ford Motor Company will award scholarships of $5,000 to each of 20 college undergraduates who submit the best essays on the topic of economic empowerment through entrepreneurship. All essays must be received by 9:30 a.m. (EST) on January 3, 2003.

The Ford Motor Company Economic Empowerment Through Entrepreneurship Essay Contest, which is found exclusively on DiversityInc.com (www.DiversityInc.com), is a Ford Motor Company outreach to the next generation of diverse thinkers and leaders. Any undergraduate enrolled in an accredited institution of higher learning, who is an U.S. citizen and at least 18-years old, is eligible. Applicants must read and comply with the official rules for this contest. Instructions for entering the contest are online at www.diversityinc.com/empowerment. All applicants will receive a complimentary 12-month subscription to both DiversityInc.com online magazine and the bimonthly print publication DiversityInc., courtesy of Ford Motor Company. Ford Motor Company has a strong history in education, diversity and entrepreneurship initiatives, stated George J. Frame, Executive Director of Dealer Development at Ford. This essay contest will give undergraduate students the opportunity to examine the importance of a corporation developing relationships and being present and active in the community.

These types of initiatives reinforce our commitment to empower our youth and future leaders. All college students applying to the Ford Motor Company Economic Empowerment Through Entrepreneurship Essay Contest are required to read four articles, which appear on DiversityInc.com, the trade publication for diversity. The articles explore the close relationship between corporate America's support and the ability of communities and individuals to prosper.

The applicants are requested to write a maximum 1,000-word essay based on the articles and submit it online. Winners will be announced on the DiversityInc.com site on March 17, 2003.

The winning students will also be featured in a special article in the May/June issue of DiversityInc, the website's bimonthly print publication.

A prestigious panel of judges, administered by DiversityInc.com will evaluate the essays. The judges are: Barbara Frankel, panel chair and Vice President and Executive Editor for DiversityInc Media; INROADS President Charles Story; R. Fenimore Fisher, Deputy Director of the RainbowPUSH/Wall Street Project; Virginia Victorin, Washington Mutual's Corporate Giving Fund Manager for Community Relations; and Professor Carl Van Horn, the Director of the John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
