Hussein Samatar joins Dean's Advisory Council at Humphrey Institute

Somali-born Hussein Samatar is one of five local and national leaders recently appointed to the Humphrey Institute's Dean Advisory Council at the University of Minnesota. Members both advise the institute and conveying information about it to the public.
Somali-born Hussein Samatar is one of five local and national leaders recently appointed to the Humphrey Institute's Dean Advisory Council at the University of Minnesota. Members both advise the institute and conveying information about it to the public.

Samatar, a Minnesotan since 1994, is founder and executive director of the African Development Center, which helps local Africans with business and community-economic development. He hosts a weekly Somali affairs radio show on KFAI-FM. The other new appointees are:

Jill Buckley, a former development and administration director at the Humphrey Institute, has been an official at the U.S. Agency for International Development and a media advisor to politicians including Sens. Tom Daschle, Pat Leahy and Tom Harkin.

Bill Buzenberg, executive director of the Center for Public Integrity in Washington, D.C., was a journalist with American Public Media/Minnesota Public Radio and National Public Radio..

Jay Cowles, former chairman of the family company that owned the Star Tribune, now manages a private investment company and is board chairman of the St. Paul Foundation and a board member of other foundations.

Peggy Lucas, former national director of the League of Women Voters, co-founded Brighton Development Corp., formerly chaired the University of Minnesota Women's Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory Council and is a current member of the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission.
