The event, scheduled for 10:30 a.m. today at Patrick Henry High, will be a prelude to the weekend world premier of Rumba Sinfonica, a symphonic work composed by Ricardo Lorenz in collaboration with Tiempo Libre Music Director Jorge Gomez.
At the one-hour workshop, Patrick Henry music students, through lecture and musical demonstrations, will learn about the history of Cuban music.
The world premier of Rumba Sinfonica will take place at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis in two performances slated for Friday, Nov. 16, and Saturday, Nov. 17, both at 8 p.m.
Tiempo Libre and the Minnesota Orchestra will be performing Rumba Sinfonica, with Tiempo Libre also performing an electrifying second set of timba music. Ticket prices range from $21 to $40.
