How do I feel about that?

Communication within relationships can be challenging. Sometimes the intent of the message gets lost between "what I said," and "what I heard you say." To be effective at bridging this gap, we need to use every tool available to us. Some years ago, I learned a powerful communication technique that I think will be helpful in accomplishing this goal. This technique involves written communication followed by an oral discussion. The writing and discussion are both based on a statement called the "How did I feel about that" or "HDIFAT" statement.

Knowledge has its own reward

There is an old story about two people named Truth and Lie. One hot day, Truth decided to take a swim. Having nothing to swim in, he removed his clothing and jumped in the water in his birthday suit. Lie came along and seeing Truth's clothing on the bank decided to put them on and head into town. When Truth got out the water and realized what had happened, he followed Lie, stark naked.

Marriage is about commitment

Marriage is about commitment

When this happens, seven women will grab the same man, and each of them will say, “I'll buy my own food and clothes! Just marry me and take away my disgrace” (Isaiah 4:1 CEV).

The book Isaiah talks a day when seven women will look for one man to give them his name. They will be willing to marry the same man and share him with six others. This will never work because marriage is a union between two people that results in something greater. Marriage requires, an exclusive, committed relationship that result in two people becoming one emotionally and spiritually.
