Spring cleaning for the emotions

Spring is in the air, and it is the wonderful time of the year when we start to shake off the dust of winter. As we begin to open the windows of our physical and spiritual houses, it is a good time to get our emotional house in order. What do we do when we get overwhelmed? The power of small beginnings"Do not despise these small beginnings, (Zechariah 4:10 NLT). This month my personal barbershop, Johnson's Barbershop located at 5257 Chicago Ave S. in South Minneapolis celebrates 16 years in business, which is a major accomplishment worthy of recognition. Relationship with other is a byproduct of “self,” and as a result, strengthening your self, strengthens your relationships.

Women united to win

March is Women’s History month. It is set aside as a time to celebrate those who have gone on before us and inspire those yet to come. This month will feature events and activities that will both educate the mind and uplift the spirit. It is also a time to prepare for the work ahead. Women around the world have overcome great odds, including that of domestic violence. That is why I am happy to be a part of the 5th Annual “Women Unite to Win” Women’s Appreciation Banquet schedule to be held Sunday, March 17, 2013. Domestic violence is an ugly little truth that has permeated our community.
