In a Letter to the Editor, (Dec. 15 – Dec. 21 issue), Alexander Reid McFarlane comments on statements made by Ryan T. Scott and Gary Burgess, Sr. about Adrian Peterson. Alexander Reid McFarlane's words were thoughtful, educated and refreshing. He clearly, proclaims, "We can stop hitting our children." What a powerful perspective. I loved his commentary and here's why.

Much has been written and spoken about the "achievement gap." Nobody asked me, but I am at least as concerned about the "education gap." That's the gap between what is taught to all Americans and the full, unvarnished truth about this country's roots and history.

People of color currently represent 18 percent of Minnesota's population and their percent of the total population continues to increase.
In Ramsey and Hennepin counties respectively, people of color represent 34 percent and 29 percent of the population. Unfortunately, people of color are often not "considered, groomed or selected for high level positions" because of "stereotypical views or unconscious bias." Further they are less likely to "receive crucial information about career advancement ... coaching about networking, tips on informal or unwritten rules of the workplace or information about job opportunities."
