Joe Jackson: Root of an All-American dynasty

No matter how mainstream media implies Joe Jackson should be ostracized from “proper society”, actions of the family continually contradict that view.  While a large percentage of the American population scorns “Papa Joe”, not so among the Jacksons.  Mainstream media’s publics’ rile has been up since Joe Jackson sought a $15,000 a month allowance from Michael’s estate.  Should Joseph Walter Jackson be bestowed $180,000 per annum from Michael Jackson’s estate?   Should Papa Joe be viewed as a rouge, or role-model?

The "public option" in the liberal-progressive tradition

One of the things I have come to lament about this and previous Democratic administrations is the failure to uphold and educate the American people about the liberal-progressive tradition that has produced so many milestone benefits for workers, the poor, the middle class and people of color minorities. It is as if the conservatives have totally intimidated the left into hiding from its history of successfully advocating for ordinary people in the face of the avaricious forces of profit and greed.

Harry Reid and slavery

The classical poet A.E. Housman wrote, “For nature, heartless, witless nature…” He might have said the same thing about history which like nature is neither cruel nor kind, right or wrong; it is simply indifferent.  It has, as they say, no dog in the fight.

Oprah's next big success

(NNPA) - When Oprah recently announced she would be leaving her syndicated talk show in 2011 to start her own cable network, I was reminded of the impact her phenomenal success has had on the lives of millions of people around the world. Her accomplishments are especially remarkable due to the fact that she rose from a childhood of extreme poverty, abuse and hardship to reign for 25 years as the queen of daytime television. Through her many ventures, including Harpo Productions, O Magazine and her movies, books and philanthropy, Oprah has established herself as an iconic force in the communications industry and an inspiration for people everywhere.

Job losses pose danger for Obama and the Democrats

There is a rebellion against Washington brewing across the land, and that’s bad news for President Obama and the Democrats. Unemployment is 10.2% and climbing. According to a recent poll, some 30% of American families are feeling the pain of the dramatic downturn in the economy, which has produced the highest level of joblessness in decades. Never mind that the devastating economic collapse was inherited by President Obama; what people care about is whether they see the government addressing their pain, whether any visible actions are being taken that give them hope that their job opportunities will improve in the near future.

Muslim American turned the biggest shopping day to a non-shopping day

On Black Friday where thousands of Americans headed to Mall of America for the biggest shopping day of the year to get an early head start on their Christmas shopping. At the same day, thousands of American Muslims here in Minnesota went to the Shopping Mecca of the world to celebrated their biggest religious festival; “Eid Aladha”, the scarifies feast commemorating the saving of Abraham son by the sheep.  A timely celebration for Muslim Americans who had a rough few weeks full of bad news, from  Major Nidal Islamic motive of going postal, to the trial of Sheikh Mohammed the master mind of 9/11, and the execution of Washington sniper John Muhammad; the people of Muhammad are behaving badly.

Historic Health Care Bill passed in House, now Senate must act

(NNPA) - After winning this year's American League Eastern Division championship, the New York Yankees faced a gauntlet of 11 more games before they could claim their 27th World Series title. Each playoff victory took the team closer to its final goal, but as Yankee legend, Yogi Berra once said, "It ain't over till it's over." The same can be said about health care reform.
