jahreya-evansWhat can you get for $3.39 these days? For Woodbury resident, Jahreya Evans it meant winning first-runner-up honors in the Miss Photogenic competition at the Nationals’ 2010 Miss Jr. Teen Minneapolis/ St. Paul pageant. A week before the July 18th competition at Washburn High School in Minneapolis, Jahreya snapped a picture of herself with her digital camera while seated in her parent’s car. After convincing them she had created a winning photograph, Miss Evans entered the self-portrait into the contest and nearly won the whole thing gaining the coveted spot as the First Runner -Up in that category. Miss Evans says the honor will help in forwarding her desire to be a model in print media.

Miss Evans was originally accepted for the competition based on the details contained in her application and her mastery of an interview session that was conducted by this year’s Minneapolis/ Saint Paul Pageant Coordinator.

Miss Evans, who is a freshman at East Ridge High School in Woodbury this fall, is a standout student. She is a two year member of Lake Middle School’s Leadership Council, was a member of the school’s track team and is planning a Business Management career post college. Miss Evans is also an active member of Uniteens, a youth organization sponsored by her church at Unity East in Woodbury.

Miss Evans competed for her share of thousands of dollars in prizes and specialty gifts distributed to contestants. She competed against nearly 190 students in the Miss Jr. Teen division, one of four with young ladies between the ages of 7 and 19 competing in modeling routines which include casual and formal wear.

Community businesses and area organizations are assisting Miss Evans by becoming her official sponsors. They include; Your Finished Basement; Tony Pankey’s State Farm Insurance; Superior Wireless by Sprint; Lexington Hair Shop; Sprint by Choice; Sharon Adams Mary Kay Cosmetics Consultants, Sharon Timmons, Edina Realty; The Standup Foundation; C. WIlli Myles Entertainment; Unity East Church; Innovative Financial and Sprint by ASW.

The winner of the event goes on to compete at the Cities of America National Competition taking place in Orlando, Florida in December.
