One of the original founding members of Pepito's Restaurant in south Minneapolis  Carlos Rodriguez – Golden Gloves boxing champ, musician, and longtime figure at Landmark South Minneapolis establishment – has died Carlos Rodriguez, one of the original founding family members and a longtime figure of Pepito's Restaurant in south Minneapolis, passed away Friday, November 16, 2012 , of complications from pancreatitis. Carlos was ever-present at the landmark Mexican-American restaurant, which he helped create along with his nephew and niece Joe and Sue Senkyr Minjares, his sister Guadalupe and Joe's father Ben Minjares. Carlos worked there for more than 41 years as the Day Manager.

Ripley Memorial Foundation Awards $62,000 in grants to programs focused on teen pregnancy prevention

The Ripley Memorial Foundation, a donor advised fund of the Women's Foundation of Minnesota, recently awarded $62,000 in grants to 12 organizations whose programs focus on teen pregnancy prevention. The grant period is January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013.

Holiday Lights in the Park illuminates St. Paul’s Phalen Park The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) held their opening day festivities of its fifth annual Holiday Lights in the Park event last Tuesday, Nov. 20 at Phalen Park in St. Paul. Holiday Lights in the Park has raised more than $170,000 during its run as one of the state’s largest holiday lights displays.
