Green Jobs: Rx for a healthy economy  & a healthy environment

Award-winning activist and environmental advocate Van Jones will be the guest speaker on behalf of the University of Minnesota’s Center for Spirituality & Healing and its new interdisciplinary initiative called Whole Systems Healing next month March 5. Whole Systems Healing teaches students to become agents of social change while exploring the social and environmental dimensions of healing.  This presentation is 4 – 6 p.m. at the Ted Mann Concert Hall, 2128 4th Street S, in Minneapolis.

Timberwolves launch creative contest celebrating influential leaders in Black History

The Timberwolves FastBreak Foundation this recently launched the fourth annual "Who Inspires You?" creative contest in celebration of inspirational black leaders in American history. Presented by KSTC Channel 45, the contest invites all middle school and high school students from across the state to submit a creative work illustrating how their choice inspires them to be a better leader today.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Twin Cities and Tubby Smith Challenge You to STAND! for our ChildrenBig Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Twin Cities (BBBS) announced the launch of its STAND! for our Children campaign, which is designed to recruit 100 African American male volunteers in 100 days. Tubby Smith, head coach of the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers men’s basketball team, is the spokesperson for this year’s STAND! campaign and will appear in a PSA airing on WUCW-TV for eight weeks between January and March.

The E. J. Henderson Youth Foundation is making several moves

There is an epidemic of giving in these perilous times, and Minnesota Vikings linebacker E.J. Henderson is leading by establishing multiple youth events and charity causes. On Friday December 19, Henderson, and his brother Erin Henderson, continued their engaged leadership in charity and community involvement. Cub Foods on Broadway hosted the E.J. Henderson Youth Foundation (EJHYF) and its first annual Christmas giving event. The EJHYF, along with Quan Sports Marketing and Comcast Cable, organized the donation of over 50 turkeys to Northside families in need. Visually, the assessment of the number of turkeys seemed to be more like 100. This abundance led to several other deserving families receiving from this holiday blessing.
