Hennepin County Sheriff's Office hosts winter Hooked on Fishing; Not Drugs event

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Little Earth, Minnesota DNR, and the Hennepin County Sheriff Foundation, hosted the first ever winterized Hooked on Fishing; Not Drugs event. More than a dozen kids ages 10-14 spent the afternoon ice fishing with deputies and learning the best ways to reel in "a big one." The event took place at Fort Snelling State Park on Snelling Lake.

"For us on the North side, we are always pissed off at the media because they say crap about the north side," said Debra Stone. "I never thought of myself as a journalist until I was accepted into this media skills class. I was hung up on the fact that a journalist gets a MA degree from Medill and Columbia and you have to have all of these credentials and get accepted into this small, elite little group."

Like many buildings over a century old, 1501 West Broadway has seen a lot of change over the years.
The two-story building at the corner of Irving Avenue North and West Broadway in north Minneapolis was once a livery stable, grocery store, dance hall, linoleum store and even a roller rink. Since 1979, it has been owner-occupied by Randy Lane and Sons Plumbing and Heating, one of the area's most trusted plumbing businesses.

Thirteen emerging artists selected to participate in John Biggers' Seed Project

The city of Minneapolis and partners Obsidian Arts, Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center, and the University of Minnesota's Urban Research and Outreach-Engagement Center (UROC) announced the selection of 13 mid-career and emerging artists for the John Biggers' Seed Project (Seed).
The Somali Artifact and Cultural Museum, 1516 East Lake Street, at Midtown Global Market, is the only Somali heritage museum in North America. Founder and curator Osman Ali wanted to remind Somali youth where and what they came from.
