The Grand Finale

The Grand FinaleFamily members and friends last week bid adieu in grand style to their beloved, Nellie Ruth Brown, in services at True Vine Missionary Baptist Church, 2639 Thomas Avenue N. in Minneapolis, and in an elegant funerary procession to the burial site. She died at home on February 19, 2011, in the company of family and friends.

In tribute to a regal soul, the funeral procession followed a horse drawn funeral carriage from the church at Thomas and West Broadway, down West Broadway en route to Crystal Lake Cemetery for internment.

Northeast resident’s appeal halts waste facility developmentThe controversial City-County waste transfer station and household hazardous collection facility proposed in Northeast Minneapolis has hit a major roadblock. A group of Northeast Minneapolis residents appealed a decision of the City’s Zoning Administrator, effectively halting the planning for a proposed waste transfer facility at 340 NE 27th Avenue until the appeal runs its course.

Portion of Sibley street closed March through July

Portion of Sibley street closed March through JulySibley Street, between Shepard Road and Kellogg Boulevard in Saint Paul’s Lowertown neighborhood, will close from March 1 through July for The Union Depot restoration, Mortenson Construction and the Ramsey County Regional Railroad Authority announced recently.

To accommodate reconstruction of the train deck for The Union Depot restoration, Sibley Street will be repaved and new pilings will be installed during that period.

MN Second Chance Coalition’s Day on the Hill

MN Second Chance Coalition’s Day on the Hill On Wednesday January 26, the MN Second Chance Coalition gathered in the State Capitol Rotunda for their ‘Day on the Hill’ to stand up for and support individuals impacted by the criminal justice system. Second Chance is a non-partisan consortium of nonprofits and companies working to raise statewide awareness regarding the barriers facing individuals with criminal records. They highlight the importance of Second Chance; and advocate for fair and responsible laws that allows people who have been through the criminal justice system to redeem themselves, fully support themselves and their families, and contribute to their communities to their full potential. Increasing employment opportunities for individuals with criminal records is crucial to their reintegration and to strengthening communities.
