Program prepares youth for healthy adulthood

Program prepares youth for healthy adulthoodWhile childhood obesity rates continue to rise across the nation, more often than not a cold shoulder is being given to this epidemic leaving tomorrow’s generation to grow up with unhealthy eating habits, risk for disease and illness, and unnecessary stigma’s that have the potential to hinder growth and stunt potential. We can place the blame on a several of the proposed culprits like video games, internet, and television, but the inability to change these circumstances comes from lack of knowledge and being unmotivated to do better.  That’s where an institution like Youth Determined to Succeed, comes into play.

ARTSPEAK: DWB-- Diving while BlackMy first memory of moving underwater wasn't real. At 8 years, old I participated in a special science summer program for what we would now call "gifted" children; I wrote a play in which the setting was the sea. Rep. Bobby Joe Champion introduced measure on alleged felony voter fraud; vetoed by Pawlenty

State Rep. Bobby Joe Champion (DFL – Minneapolis), issued the following statement in response to a report alleging widespread voter fraud among felons:

“A report issued this week by Minnesota Majority claims that many ineligible felons cast ballots in the 2008 election.  While I’m skeptical about the data, I am certainly concerned about anyone voting who is not eligible to vote in Minnesota.  There has been confusion about when and if felons are allowed to vote.  I authored a bill in 2010 that would address these concerns and lay out guidelines.  The bill requires the Secretary of State to develop a comprehensive publication on the voting rights of individuals who have been charged with or convicted of a felony.  This measure was passed on to Governor Pawlenty, who vetoed the bill.
