Ripley Memorial Foundation Awards $62,000 in grants to programs focused on teen pregnancy prevention

The Ripley Memorial Foundation, a donor advised fund of the Women's Foundation of Minnesota, recently awarded $62,000 in grants to 12 organizations whose programs focus on teen pregnancy prevention. The grant period is January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013.

Holiday Lights in the Park illuminates St. Paul’s Phalen Park

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) held their opening day festivities of its fifth annual Holiday Lights in the Park event last Tuesday, Nov. 20 at Phalen Park in St. Paul. Holiday Lights in the Park has raised more than $170,000 during its run as one of the state’s largest holiday lights displays.

NAZ Ball

More than 800 guests joined Northside Achievement Zone (NAZ) for their November 11 ball at The Depot in Downtown Minneapolis. The Ball is a combination fundraiser and community event. The Soul Tight Committee was one of thee bands at the 2012 NAZ Ball. The event also featured the YN RichKids performing their YouTube hit Hot Cheetos and Takis. Guests from across the Twin Cities supported Northside children and families and danced until midnight.

On Nov. 7th I was elected to represent the people of my district in the Minnesota House of Representatives. Election night and the following morning were very exciting. Seeing the election returns in my district was made sweeter by defeating the two divisive constitutional amendments, as well as being a part of the DFL taking back both the State House and Senate. I am humbled and honored by this responsibility and pledge to always put the needs of the district and the state before politics and special interests.

For Samuel Ngwa, owner of Safari Pride Coffee and Dessco Imports, coffee is an important part of his identity and life, and it is not hard to see why. "I grew up in Cameroon, a country in West Africa, where most families live on a compound with about an acre of surrounding land. My father took care of coffee trees, which was a staple commercial product that sustained most of the families. So my brothers and I tended to the coffee when we were not in school."
