MPS to roll out enrollment bus, extend summer registration office hours

In an effort to reach more families and enroll children in school, Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) is taking student enrollment to the streets with a mobile enrollment bus. The bus will make stops at key locations throughout Minneapolis before the start of school to accommodate families who may have barriers to visiting one of the school district's two placement centers. English language assessments will also be provided.

Teach for America is currently in talks with Hamline University about the partnership the two share, as TFA conducts its summer training "Institutes" in locations around the United States. For now, the TFA/Hamline partnership will continue, but TFA is also hoping to partner with the University of Minnesota, possibly in order to locate a training institute in Minnesota.

Picking the right job candidate is not easy. I was given the task of recommending college students for summer employment for my organization. I promptly pulled together a team of both seasoned professionals and recent college grads to make the job selection. We reviewed more than 100 resumes and interviewed several candidates. We had to make these selections quickly. To my surprise, I was flabbergasted at the lack of employment preparation for by some people.

Minnesota state university students oppose the deal Senate lawmakers have reached on federal student loan reform that may be voted on as early as Tuesday. This deal makes long-term changes to the student loan system, which address Congress's budget crisis by placing a greater burden on the backs of students.
