The 16th annual Julian Parker Lecture will be held 7:00-8:30 pm on Thursday, May 9, in Opus Hall on the Minneapolis campus of the University of St. Thomas. This year's program is titled "Schools Without a Majority: Implications and Opportunities."

Celebrating the power of words and the art of writing, Minneapolis Urban League (MUL) Academy School students will be afforded the opportunity to express their personal viewpoints, learn about publishing career pathways, produce their own book, and be taught first hand that English class and communication skills do matter and can serve them well for a lifetime.

Morgan State University wins academic championships

(BLACK PR WIRE) – After two days of intense competition among 250 students representing 48 competing teams, Morgan State University claimed its second National Championship title in a row at the 24th Annual Honda Campus All-Star Challenge (HCASC), an annual academic event featuring the best and brightest students from the nation's Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Enduring a year-long program of study and preparation, the Morgan State University team emerged victorious at the National Championship Tournament held on the Los Angeles-area campus of American Honda Motor Co., Inc., and took home $50,000 in grants for their school.

MPS scores former NBA star as next athletic director

Johnson proposes balanced budget to school board

On March 15, Chief Financial Officer Robert Doty and his finance team presented the preliminary fiscal year (FY) 2014 budget to the finance committee of the Minneapolis Board of Education. You may recall that our school district faced a $25 million budget shortfall for FY 2014, which begins July 1. I worked with my leadership team to make tough choices, knowing that strategic cuts at the central office level would be necessary to continue to focus on our priorities for schools.
