Milken Educator Award winner Natalie Rasmussen taught at Minneapolis North High for 20 years, including the Summatech years. In 2010, Rasmussen took a new job at the Blake School, as chair of its PreK-12 science department.
MABL honors Bernadeia Johnson for courageous leadership

Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) superintendent, Dr. Bernadeia Johnson, was honored on Saturday, Nov. 9, by the Minnesota Association of Black Lawyers (MABL) for her courageous leadership in eliminating the achievement gap for minority students in Minneapolis. Johnson received the 2013 Profiles in Courage Award, an annual recognition award bestowed on individuals who demonstrate courage and excellence in their leadership.
Minnehaha Academy students receive academic recognition

Three Minnehaha Academy students, Aaron Williams, Zoey Twyford and Tianna Briese received recognition as National Merit Awardees. These students received the designation of National Achievement Outstanding Participants by scoring in the top 3% of more than 160,000 African-Americans who requested consideration in the 2014 National Achievement Program when they took the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
Way to Grow and Urban Ventures announce partnership: Parent-child program for preschool-aged children and their families starts this January

In January 2014, Way to Grow will open a parent-child program for preschool-aged children and their families, called PALS (Parent-Child Activities Lead to School Readiness), on the campus of Urban Ventures, 2924 4th Ave S, Minneapolis.
Earlier this month, Lt. Governor Yvonne Prettner Solon served breakfast at Pillsbury Elementary School 2250 Garfield Street NE, Minneapolis, MN 5541 to raise awareness of child hunger and its impact on education. The Lt. Governor was joined by Education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius, Minneapolis School Superintendent Bernadeia Johnson, Pillsbury Principal Laura Cavender, and Ellie Lucas of Hunger Free Minnesota.
