Students representing public universities, private colleges and community colleges from around Minnesota, along with select college faculty and Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, gathered Tuesday in front of Coffman Memorial Union to hold a news conference and rally against the voter restriction amendment. Speakers included student representatives from Winona State University, the University Minnesota-Morris, the University of St. Thomas and several from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus.

We believe that this support demonstrates that the people of Minneapolis value our work and have confidence that we can make the improvements necessary to raise student achievement. One of our school district's sources of support and funding is the property tax levy.

The UNCF Empower Me Tour Presented by Wells Fargo, a free, traveling college-and career-readiness road show, will make its second tour stop on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Dunwoody College of Technology located at 818 Dunwoody Boulevard, in Minneapolis, MN. Celebrating its fifth anniversary, the UNCF Empower Me Tour was created in partnership with Wells Fargo to prepare students to go to and through college and inspire them to take control of their future by using education as the foundation for achieving their goals and dreams.
