A Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) program that helps former and current students obtain their high school diploma is reaching out to those who attended MPS between 2000 and 2012 and need to pass one or more state tests to graduate high school.
During a coronation ceremony on Monday, January 28 at Benilde-St. Margaret, senior Jonathan Sutton was chosen by his peers to serve as the 2013 Grand Knight. Jonathan and his date, Marielle Arostegui, reigned over the Snowball Dance, a “girl-ask-guy” formal dance, which was held, Saturday, February 1. Other Grand Knight candidates included seniors Nolan Ahlm, James Borin, Patrick Graham, Gavin McLain, and Tommy Sprenger. Emcee for coronation was Peter Best. North Community High School has seen its fair share of changes, struggles, media frenzy, and various principals in a short time period along with a decrease in attendance.
The Minneapolis Board of Education elected new officers for chair, vice chair, treasurer and clerk. Alberto Monserrate will serve as chair, Jenny Arneson as vice chair, Richard Mammen as clerk and Rebecca Gagnon as treasurer. The school board voted on the nominations after swearing in four new board members during its annual meeting Tuesday, January 8, bringing the total number of directors to nine.
