Claiming Right to Wellness: Self-Efficacy and Voting

There is an old song that was frequently sung during the Civil Rights movement entitled: Ain't Gon' Let Nobody Turn Me Around!" This belief is one based in the psychological principle of self-efficacy. Self-efficacy is the belief that one is competent believes that he or she holds the power to affect situations. These beliefs strongly influencing no only the power a person actually has to face challenges, but it also influences the choices a person makes. The influence of self-efficacy has been especially studied with regard to behaviors affecting health and wellness. I believe that we all have a right to be well.

Erectile dysfunction: A window to whole body health

Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is the most common sexual health problem in men, affecting more than 1/3 of men during their lifetime. ED is defined as the inability for a man to achieve or maintain an erection of the penis that is sufficient for sexual activity. Health conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes can double or triple the risk of developing ED. ED can also be an early warning sign of underlying health conditions like heart disease as many individuals who go on to have a heart attack, often have a history of ED in the preceding years. Health officials contacting clinics in state to urge them to contact patients who received other NECC drugs possibly associated with fungal infections

The Minnesota Department of Health determined this week that 129 clinics in Minnesota received injectable drugs from New England Compounding Center (NECC) that could pose a potential risk of meningitis or other infections to their patients. Staff from MDH are in the process of contacting those clinics to make sure that they are contacting their patients who were given the drugs and instructing them to see their health care provider if they develop symptoms of meningitis.
