More choices now available under Minnesota WIC Nutrition Program

Foods provided under the federal Women, Infants and Children Nutrition program (WIC) now include fruits and vegetables. The changes are the first major overhaul of the foods available through WIC. The 35-year-old federally-funded nutrition program serves lower-income and nutritionally-at-risk pregnant and breast-feeding women, their infants and young children.

MN child care costs third highest in country

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Child-care costs in Minnesota are the third highest in the nation, based on the price of care as a percentage of the median income for a two-parent family, according to a new report from the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies. However, new laws passed in the last legislative session will help offset the high costs.

MN pilot website fans across region to help struggling families

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - A Minnesota Web site meant to help families access the available assistance in these difficult times has been successful and is now being adopted in others states in the region. The Children's Defense Fund of Minnesota says the multi-state pilot project improves the well-being of low-income families by linking them to public work support programs and tax credits.
