Retirement is supposed to be a time of leisure, after decades spent in the working world and raising children. But millions of seniors, because of our increasingly aging population, are finding themselves as caregivers - pursuing a new labor of love, the care of a spouse or another loved one.
Next week, the Minnesota Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) will celebrates 92 years of ministry and service to our community during its Holy Convocation. Congratulations go out to Bishop Fred W. Washington and State Supervisor Patricia Hayes for another successful year of serving our community. The theme for this year's celebration is "Christ extreme sacrifice calls for our extreme commitment." Bishop Washington continues to demonstrate his extreme commitment by challenging us all to support him in his goal of willing 10,000 souls to Christ. Also, the Minnesota COGIC Jurisdiction has renewed its extreme commitment to helping the community live the best life possible. In return, we need the community to help the church.

Today is a day to be thankful for all that you have and everything that you are working toward becoming. Let's be thankful for the ability to set goals and work toward them. Don't let anyone or anything stand in your way of completing what you started and seeing it through to the end. I know there are lots of times when "Life" happens and we get a little side tracked, but stay on your path and keep working toward your greatness!
Greatness is not measured by the height of one's stature, but by the depth of one's heart. Such is the case for Khari Richburg. For the past 18 years, he has been successfully competing with Special Olympics in such areas as basketball, softball, floor hockey, bowling, and track and field. He especially enjoys softball and basketball and has a substantial collection of gold, silver, and bronze medals which he has earned and proudly displays. In 2006 his softball team represented Minnesota and competed in the Special Olympics USA National Games in Des Moines, Iowa where they took first place.
