The Oct. 21 Insight/KMOJ Public Policy Forum assembled candidates vying to represent South Minneapolis’ House District 61B. Addressing the audience at Lucille’s Kitchen in North Minneapolis were incumbent Representative Neva Walker (DFL) with challengers, Robert Anderson (IND) and Andy Lindberg (Rep.).
All were asked to substantiate their candidacy. Walker promptly responded that she is seeking re-election because community members asked her to. “There’s work I started [that] I was unable to get done due to the powers that be at the legislature.” Walker stated that said work includes “continuing to get others involved in the political process, most importantly, asking others to consider running for office. One of the most important areas we’re missing at the capitol is someone working with the criminal justice system, for example. I can’t do it all. I’m asking for support from the community to continue the work I need to do.”
