Each year, Minneapolis MOSAIC commissions an artistic work that celebrates the diversity of the city and serves as a commemorative representation of the festival. This year, Minneapolis MOSAIC is asking local artists to build pride in community heritage and create awareness of cultural diversity through film. Previous commissions have included ceramics, a symphonic composition, spoken word and a choreographed dance. Last year's commission, "Stand in the Light," a theatre piece created by Pillsbury House Theatre's Breaking Ice project, explored the challenges and joys of living together in an increasingly diverse Minneapolis.
For 2008, Minneapolis MOSAIC is seeking artists who live or work within the city limits of Minneapolis to submit proposals for the project. The original film proposal should adhere to the theme of cultural diversity, community heritage and vitality. The selected proposal will receive $10,000 to cover costs of the project's production. A complete request for proposal and application is available online at www.minneapolismosaic.com, under "2008 Commission."
