McFarlane, a guitar virtuoso and fine singer, affords the proceedings laid-back, energized ambiance, drawing on a wide repertoire of spirited arrangements. His staple, as those who know him as founder and leader of the internationally award-winning band Ipso Facto, is reggae, executed in quintessential lively-up fashion (fans of the group should be on the look-out for a reunion in the works for October 25th).

The musical interludes for the Public Policy Forum essentially came about as a notion batted back and forth between Wain and his brother, Insight News Group CEO/President and principal Forum host Al McFarlane. "We both often talked about [it], Over the years, we always dreamt of this idea", said Wain, likening his participation to the format by which David Letterman and other variety show headliners hold viewer attention with the help of house musicians. It is, needless to say, an innovation to incorporate this approach to the serious business of connecting with the community.
