The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) has identified two Minneapolis Police Department officers who discharged their weapons during the shooting of Thurman Blevins on June 23.
Officer Ryan Kelly, who has been with the department since 2013 and Officer Justin Schmidt, who has been with the department since 2014, have been identified by the BCA as those involved in the weekend shooting, which occurred near Camden and 48th Avenues North in Minneapolis.
Blevins, 31, of Minneapolis, died from multiple gunshot wounds following a 911 call of a man with a gun. Officers and witnesses differ on whether or not Blevins was armed, but according to Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo, both officers involved were wearing body cameras, which were active during the incident.
Both officers are on administrative leave.
