The Minnesota Lynx announced the organization will join forces with Minnesota Alliance With Youth - an association committed to advocating with and for youth to ensure that all young people in Minnesota have access to the fundamental resources they need to be successful - to host a Global Youth Service Day celebration on Sunday, April 25 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Mall of America's Best Buy Rotunda. The event, intended for children of all ages and their parents, will feature youth performers, on-site service projects and special appearances from Lynx players. More information about the celebration can be found on the organization’s website, www.mnyouth.net

Global Youth Service Day, held in 100 countries around the world, involves millions of youth across the globe. The annual event highlights and celebrates the contributions of youth to their communities through volunteer service, and is organized to mobilize youth to identify and address the needs of their communities through service; support youth on a life-long path of service and civic engagement; and educate the public, the media, and policymakers about the year-round contributions of young people as community leaders.

The Global Youth Service Day celebration at the Mall of America is sponsored by Minnesota Alliance With Youth in partnership with Delta Dental of Minnesota and the Minnesota Lynx Organization. Performances slated for the event include the Cooper High School Step Team, St. Paul Johnson Motion Crew, Youthrive: LIVE! and local Minneapolis band Parallax.

"We're very excited about our partnership with Minnesota Alliance With Youth," said Lynx Chief Operating Officer, Conrad Smith. "Today's youth hold the key to our future and we're very proud to be able to highlight the great work they do in our community."

President and CEO of Minnesota Alliance With Youth, Sarah Dixon, said, “Global Youth Service Day is a great chance for us to celebrate the meaningful commitments area youth make to volunteer service. We’re excited to honor the many, many young people who contribute to the well-being of our communities with an event that is truly designed with them in mind.”

The Minnesota Alliance With Youth is Minnesota’s leading convener, collaborator and capacity-builder for youth development, working with and for youth to ensure that all young people have access to five fundamental resources proven to ensure that youth succeed. Known as the Five Promises, these resources are: caring adults, safe places, a healthy start, effective education and opportunities to help others. The Alliance is the Minnesota affiliate of the America’s Promise Alliance and contributes resources to schools, communities and partner organizations across the state in the form of 70 AmeriCorps Promise Fellows.
