Ever since he was a child, Richard Garriott’s dream was to follow in his father Owen’s footsteps by becoming an astronaut. After all, during his formative years he got to watch his dad train before rocket into orbit aboard NASA Skylab and Space Shuttle missions.
   
But Richard was ruled ineligible for consideration because of his poor vision, so he had to pursue another line of work entirely as an adult. He nonetheless went on to enjoy astounding success as a computer programmer, most notably as the inventor of the successful series of Ultima fantasy games.

Urban League job growth policy in alignment with Obama vision

Broadband adoption rises but digital divide persists

WASHINGTON – The Department of Commerce's Economics and Statistics Administration (ESA) and National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) recently released a report, “Exploring the Digital Nation,” that analyzes broadband Internet adoption in the United States. Overall, approximately seven out of 10 households in the United States subscribe to broadband service. The report finds a strong correlation between broadband adoption and socio-economic factors, such as income and education, but says these differences do not explain the entire broadband adoption gap that exists along racial, ethnic and geographic lines. Even after accounting for socio-economic differences, certain minority and rural households still lag in broadband adoption.
