Insight News is looking for enthusiastic, hard-working health writers to join our team.
Ideal candidates have at least 3 years of experience writing content for print and/or the web with a focus on health and wellness content. We are looking for creative individuals who are self-sufficient and versatile. While we prefer writers who are local, we will also consider writers who live out of state.
About Insight News:
Insight News has had a long commitment to addressing health disparities in Minnesota’s African American communities. We are expanding this work through our newly-formed Insight Health Equity Action Lab (iHEAL) which will advance health equity through developing sustainable and measureable strategies. A key part of this work is storytelling and investigative journalism.
We’re looking for writer who have the ability to make the connections between health and place, research and public policy and who can help inform change via investigative journalism and storytelling.
Writer Responsibilities:
- Work within tight deadlines
- Research, pitch, and write 900 to 1,500-word articles with a one- to three-day turnaround, depending on the topic and timeliness of the article
- Ability to file 2-3 stories per month
- Post “teaser” content on social media platforms
Experience:
Minimum three years’ editorial experience writing and editing. Experience with building content in a CMS and with social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. This working relationship is perfect for someone who is detail- and solution-oriented, creative and innovative. Writers are paid per story by-weekly.
